Week 3 EOC: My Demographics

I will have to say that I fall into the Millennials also known as Generation Y. One because I was born between 1977-2000 and grew up with the inventions: cellphones, computers, and TV’s. “All generations are comfortable with technology, but this is the generation that’s been formed by technology,” says a Yahoo! executive. For them, “it’s not something separate. It’s just something they do.”(Page: 73, Chapter 2, Armstrong & Kotler (2011). Marketing: An Introduction, 10th Ed. Prentice Hall Publishing) I did more research rather than just going by what my book had said a millennial generation was or shall be. One article I had read, The Time contributor had called my generation selfish, egotistical, and lazy. Well I can’t complain we can be lazy but that’s not all of the millennials, we just do what we want and don’t want to follow anyone or any rules. I see us as free spirited generation even with our technology, which people see that it’s sucking the life out of us but really it’s keeping our generation connected. In the Elite Daily article Joel Stein was sticking up for his generation and states that we rather play by our own rules, we know how to beat the system, and we’re always trying to change the game. And that’s just half of what he talks about, this article describes me more than what my school book described. “We’re not going to hand our souls over to men in suits or women in pencil skirts. We’re not going to work for companies we don’t respect. We’re not going to wake up every morning dreading the 9-to-5. But we’re not going to sit back and sulk either.” (http://elitedaily.com/life/50-things-millennials-make-corporate-america-uncomfortable) My textbook does bring up technology which is a huge thing for a generation to grow up with because a lot feel it is taking us away from fun and a lot of other things but then again at the same time it’s helping some us get out there in a different way. “One thing that all of the Millennials have in common is their utter fluency and comfort with digital technology. They don’t just embrace technology, it’s a way of life. The Millennials were the first generation to grow up in a world filled with computers, cellphones, satellite TV, iPods, and online social networks.” (Page: 37, Chapter 2, Armstrong & Kotler (2011).
